INCREDIBLE Eleanor Hair/ Makeup tutorial!
eleanor calder inspired makeup tutorial
The main thing about Eleanor’s makeup is that it’s very basic 90% of the time. You can only see a lot of makeup when she is out. I’m gonna make it as simple as I can. I’ll give you expensive and cheap options and along my favourite/what works the best. Then how I think she wears it.
Eyes:
Eye Shadow:
Because she looks like she is never wearing any eye shadow it’s best to use natural matte colours. Things with shimmer give off the look of you are wearing something, where matte colours give a good subtle look of little to no makeup.Expensive:
MAC Eye Shadow: Kid, Wedge, Cork, Soft Brown ($15)
Make Up Forever: 076- Beige, 164 Cafe Latte, 163- Beige Brown, 157 Flesh Pink ($20)
Urban Decay: Buck, Naked, ABC Gum ($18)Cheap:
Sleek Makeup: AU Naturel I-Divine Palette ($10.50)Maybelline: Expertwear Eyeshadow in Almond Satin ($5.50 can vary in price)
My favourite though expensive is Make Up Forever eye shadow. It’s very pigmented and I think is the best eye shadow out there.
How to wear it:
To make it extra matte use Urban Decay’s Eye Primer Potion in Eden ($20) before you put on the eye shadow. Put the lighter colour of your choice on first and the slightly darker colour in your crease to define your eyes a little bit more. Since it doesn’t look like she is wearing much at all any (if any) eye shadow be sure to “smoke” (aka just really blend) out your edges so it “smokes” into nothing.Eyeliner:
A lot of the time people seem to think she isn’t wearing eyeliner, but if when you’re a makeup artist (like myself) you just have an eye for that kind of stuff and know she is wearing eyeliner. There are like 3748738 different kinds of eyeliners out there. To pinpoint what someone actually uses is near to impossible sometimes unless it is kohl liner or stick. It looks like for the most part she isn’t using a stick liner. She is more likely using gel or liquid and it’s black.Expensive:
Gel: Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Liner Black ink ($22), MAC Fluidline Blacktrack ($15), Clinque Brush-On Cream Liner True Black ($15)
Liquid: MAC Liquidlast Liner ($18.50), Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Black ($20), Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner ($19)Stick: Buxom Insider Eyeliner Onyx ($14), Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Mat Black OL ($18) MAC Kohl Power Feline ($15)
Cheap:
Gel: E.L.F. Cream Liner Black ($3) Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Blackest Black ($10 can vary in price)Liquid: Sleek Makeup Dip it ($6)
Stick: Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer ($4-8)
My favourite is Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner since the day I bought it. It’s seriously the easiest eyeliner to put on ever. I’ve always been kind of weary of buying cheaper/drug eyeliner. Eye liner is one of those things I’m a firm believer in “you get what you pay for.”
How to wear it:
The trick with Eleanor’s eyeliner is that she is only using it to really define her eyes. She isn’t wearing it thick enough to look like someone out of The Only Way is Essex. The thing is you can’t exactly copy someone’s eyeliner unless you have the same eye shape as them. There different kinds of eye shapes and certain eye shapes can’t wear certain kinds of eyeliner styles. Eleanor has more round eyes so she generally wears eyeliner that goes past the outer part of her eye and is built up more at the outer end (doe eye) and she is even seen with cat eyes sometimes. However, some people can’t “pull that off” so here is quick and easy explanations on how to apply your eyeliner according to your eye shape:Almond - This shape can handle just about any look. For daytime, lightly mark the entire top lash line and dust a neutral shadow over the lid. For night, trace the top and bottom lines, and smudge for a smokey effect.
Asian – To accentuate the eyes, draw a pencil line from the middle of the upper lash lines to the outer corners and all along the bottom lids. Smudge.
Small – Line the inner rim of the lower lid with a white or light blue liner. Adding more whiteness around the eye makes it look bigger.
Round – Elongate your eyes by lining the outer two thirds of the upper and bottom lash lines and joining them at the outer corner. The line should be a little thicker at the outer corner and turn up slightly at the end.
Close-Set – To add the illusion of space between your eyes, keep the emphasis on the outer corners. Use a dark liner on the outer quarter of the top and bottom lash lines, and add mascara to the outer lashes only.
Wide-Set – To downplay space between your eyes, use a darker on the inner corners and a slightly lighter color for the rest of the lash lines. Avoid sweeping shadow out to the temples. Instead let your shadow fade out before it reaches the end of the eye.
(source: http://www.audreydao.com/2009/03/31/how-to-apply-eyeliner-according-to-your-eye-shape/)For the “Eleanor Look” you can apply your eyeliner just thin instead of overly dramatically thick. Eleanor uses it really as something to define her eyes not to cake it on and take up a lot of lid space.
Also, if you are very fair skinned and of the light eye variety (blue and light green eyes) you can always use a brown eyeliner instead of black, because sometime black is too harsh against the combo of light skin and light eyes. Brown also flatters your feature more so it “pops” better.
Mascara:
There really is that much to say about mascara other than that she is clearly wearing it.Expensive: Make Up Forever Smoky Lash Black ($24), Buxom Lash Blackest Black ($19), Chanel Inimitable 10 Noir Black ($30), Dior Blackout ($25)
Cheap: Maybelline Great Lash ($5 can vary in price), Covergirl Lash Blast Volume ($7 can vary in price)
My favourite currently is Buxom Lash. It really make my lashes look lovely.
How to wear:
The key to her mascara is to make sure it isn’t clumpy. The best way to make sure this doesn’t happen is take an a clean mascara spoolie and brush it through your lashes after you are done applying your mascara. You won’t clump up so much. Also another helpful tip is if are natural blonde and your eyelashes are blonde it’s actually recommended that you use a black/brown or brown mascara. Black mascara sometimes makes your eyelashes look spider legs if your eyelashes are blonde and you don’t do it properly.
Face:
Foundation:
Eleanor has pretty good skin and sometimes I highly doubt she is even wearing any foundation. However, I’ve learned after going to school for makeup you can’t be naïve about that kind of stuff and everyone is always wearing something even if it’s powder. Her skin is very matte looking for the most part so you’ll want a matte foundation.Foundation truly depends on what your skin type is like and other factors. I can say *insert product here* is the best one, but it doesn’t mean it is the best one for you. Foundation is the one thing in makeup that makes me want to scream.
I can’t honestly say I don’t venture into cheap foundation, because it 1.) It never matches my skin tone properly. 2.) I always breakout for it. 3.) I only use Chanel foundation. So this section is gonna lack the Cheap section. I apologise. However, I think it’s better to leave that section out than give you some bogus information and something end up being super rubbish.
Some matte and semi-matte foundations: Chanel Perfection Lumiére ($55), MAC Studio Fix Fluid ($27), Bare Escentuals Matte Foundation ($27)
My favourite is Chanel Perfection Lumiére and has been since I first tried it on. Pretty much if you are like super pasty/fair skinned Chanel has a colour to match you. It may cost your first born, but it’s worth it. lol
How to wear:
Foundation is pretty self exclamatory. The best advice I can give to you is that use a primer so it stick better and use a beauty blender or a sponge after apply to make it blend “flawlessly” on your face. Just dab a moist sponge on your face once you’re done apply your foundation and it will look a lot better. Also if you are gonna use a brush to apply foundation remember to always brush downwards when apply foundation, because the little hair you have your face (everyone has hair on their face) won’t stick up. Don’t go against the grain.Cheeks:
Eleanor’s blush is very subtle and who knows maybe she has a natural pink cheek like some people do. Nevertheless, if/when she is wearing blush it is never more than a subtle pink colour.Expensive: NARS Orgasm ($28), MAC Cremeblend Blush So Sweet So Easy ($20), Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Blush Walk of Shame ($26)
Cheap: Sleek Makeup Pixie Pink ($6.50), E.L.F Studio Blush Twinkle Pink ($3)
My favourite is NARS Orgasm. It seriously goes with everything.
How to wear:
The main thing about the blush is that it isn’t on the cheekbones, but rather on the apples of the cheeks. It is also applied very very lightly. It’s very subtle to the point it doesn’t look like it is there. If you accidently add too much just use a sponge or brush you used to apply your foundation with and blend it with the blush that is one your face. It will make it look like less blush and more skin toned.Lips:
It doesn’t look like she is actually wearing any kind lipstick or lip colour. It seems to be one of those “just put on some lip balm and call it a day” kind of lip. She is seen with some gloss on her lips sometimes. So I’ll just list some safe coloured lip colours that doesn’t look like you are really wearing too much lip colour.Expensive: MAC Pink Plaid ($14.50), Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense #1; #29 ($19),
Cheap: Covergirl Lip Perfection 395 Darling (4.98 can vary in price)
My favourite kind of lipstick has always been MAC. It’s really good quality stay forever.
How to wear:
If you are gonna wear a lipstick there is no need to really coat it on your lips, because in pictures it really isn’t the thing that makes it stick out the most. If you want you can always use a clear gloss on top of it to make you lips bigger.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I hope that helps with any makeup questions anyone has about Eleanor’s makeup. It really is very simple to do!
If you have any questions about it (or any makeup questions in general) you can ask me in my inbox I will more than willing to help. I’ went to school for makeup so it isn’t like a 12 year old thinking they know everything about makeup. Lol
